This monitor is absolutely gorgeous. The colors are vibrant, the black levels are impressive, and it has many features. It has a sleep timer, you can change the input it will automatically switch to at turn on by changing the default input, you can view how many hours the backlight has been on…it’s great. HDMI, DVI, VGA, it can do it all. It even comes with a VGA cable. I haven’t really experienced any glare, but then again I don’t sit in front of sunlight and the paparazzi aren’t particularly interested in me.

Just one caveat: the monitor comes folded, as the hinge between the base and the screen allows it to collapse and fit inside the packaging box. When I was unfolding it from the box, the hinge was quite stiff. I was actually a bit concerned that I would break the monitor right in half. Instead of holding the base and pulling the screen to unfold it, try holding the screen and pulling the base. It’s less scarier and it works out easier.

Overall, I really enjoy this monitor and I would highly recommend it!

July 25th: Followup to STICKY SITUATION – After posting the initial review (below) I sent it along, verbatim, to Mark Hurd, President, Chairman and CEO of Hewlett Packard, via HP’s Customer Service email link. Two days later I got a call from Andrea who works at HP’s case management office, out in Palo Alto, I believe. She said that they had discussed the adhesive issue with engineering and the recommendation is to use isopropyl alcohol to remove the glue. She further went on to say DO NOT use any other compound, such as paint thinner, or it will damage the plastic bezel and screen. She also said that they have contacted manufacturing and are changing the way the marketing band is attached to the bezel. I disassembled my system and laid the monitor on its’ back to minimize the chance of anything dripping the the screen. The good news is that the isopropyl alcohol works. It took about 20 minutes to clean the entire bezel since you can only work on and clear a small section of the adhesive at a time. What a pain, but all’s well that ends well. Thanks to HP for their response and getting the issue resolved.

    Original Review –

The good news – the monitor image is gorgeous. The bad news – the marketing band across the top of the display. As with the earlier review, pulling off the band is a huge pain and then there’s the adhesive left on the bezel. I called HP customer service and spoke with someone half way around the world, who had never even heard of AMAZON (yikes!). At first, he suggested that I return the monitor to AMAZON for a new one, obviously not comprehending that the problem is with the HP packaging process and not with the reseller.
I told him that there are plenty of chemical compounds out there that will remove the adhesive, but that I’m deathly afraid of anything coming into contact with and damaging the screen. After being placed on hold, the HP customer service person said that it would be safe to use isopropyl alcohol. Maybe isopropyl alcohol is safe for the screen, but I’m not sure that it will, in any way, remove the adhesive. Having said all of this, I strongly suggest that if you want to remove the marketing band and tackle the adhesive problem, do so before anything else so you can deal with the issue while the monitor is lying down and you’ll be less apt to having something destructive dripping on the screen. Take away the one star because of the marketing band mess.

I received this monitor yesterday and I can say it certainly exceeded my expectations. This is a great display. When you factor in the price, simply an amazing buy. Running it as the main display in a dual monitor Win7 setup. Used primarily for photo editing.

I researched this monitor extensively prior to purchase, and I’d like to add my opinion to 2 negative items mentioned in other reviews, both here and elsewhere:

    1. Adhesive residue from monitor sticker – The sticker is huge. It covers the entire top bezel. Definitely overkill. However,I removed it slowly and it came off very easily and left zero residue! None at all! Possible they have changed the adhesive.

    2. Two reviews mentioned difficulty in opening the base, which is hinged to the monitor and folded back for shipping. I really can’t believe this was mentioned in a review. Stiff, yes, but very easy to open.

At this price, I recommend this monitor very highly.
